Finally Fall(ish)...    

October is almost here, and if you're anything like me, you're waiting for that first break in the weather. A cool breeze, opening the windows to your home, and finally stepping outside without immediately wondering why you bothered fixing your hair.

Fall is a little different here in Northwest Florida. We don't always get crisp temperatures and colorful leaves, and for those of you who actually have sweaters in your closet, they may stay there a little longer, but October still gives us plenty to look forward to.

There's a lot happening around Panama City, Panama City Beach and Northwest Florida this October. Come with me as we take a look at some of the activities coming our way!

Big Trucks | October 3

If you have a little one who gets excited every time a fire truck, police car or giant piece of construction equipment goes by, you don't want to miss Touch-A-Truck at Carl Gray Park.

This is a free event. Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Kids can get up close with vehicles from local fire and police departments, public works, emergency services, Tyndall Air Force Base and more. Heck maybe even some if us adults would like it to. Who's a big kid at heart? ME!

A Weekend With Pirates | October 9–11

Arrrgh you ready?

Sorry. It had to be done.

The Pirates of the High Seas & Renaissance Fest returns to Panama City Beach October 9–11, and admission is free. Expect pirates, mermaids, parades, live entertainment, a Renaissance marketplace, demonstrations, a treasure drop and plenty of activities for the kids.

Saturday night even ends with fireworks.

Pick a Pumpkin...From a Swimming Pool | October 17

Only in Florida would we look at a perfectly good pumpkin patch and think, You know what this needs? A swimming pool.

The Floating Pumpkin Patch returns to the Panama City Beach Aquatic Center on Saturday, October 17. While much of the country is pulling out jackets and thinking there's no way they're getting anywhere near a swimming pool, here in Florida, we can still go swimming for our pumpkins in October!

This is definitely one to watch if you have younger kids—or if you just appreciate the fact that Florida somehow found a way to combine swimming and pumpkin picking.

The cost is $6 and includes a pumpkin. The event time has not yet been announced, so be sure to check the city's event page (HERE) as October gets closer.

Eat, Drink & Say “Prost!” at PCB Oktoberfest | October 16–18

Panama City Beach Oktoberfest returns to Aaron Bessant Park October 16–18, and this one really does offer something for adults and kids.

For the grown-ups, there's German beer, food, live music, stein-hoisting competitions and plenty of pretzels. For families, there are bounce houses, face painting, carnival games and children's activities. Kids 12 and under are currently admitted free with a kids ticket.

So yes you can have your bratwurst and entertain the children too.

Give the Dogs Their Own Fall Festival | October 17

Let's be honest. Some of us have four-legged children too.

Paws in the Park takes place Saturday, October 17, from 9 a.m. to noon at Frank Brown Park Dog Park, and admission is free. There will be police K-9 demonstrations, a Doggie Dash, pet vendors, an adoption booth and, yes, a pet costume contest!

Honestly, dogs wearing Halloween costumes may be all the reason I need to go.

Hungry For Seafood? | October 9–11

If seafood is more your idea of a good time, the 2nd Annual PCB Seafood Festival & Fishing Rodeo is happening October 9–11 at Capt. Anderson's Marina—and admission is free!

There will be fresh seafood, more than 80 local vendors, live entertainment, fishing rodeo weigh-ins and a Kids' Zone with bounce houses, so this is another one that works for both adults and families. Stick around Sunday evening and they'll wrap up the weekend with fireworks at 8:30 p.m.

Rev Up for Thunder Beach | October 21–25

October isn't all about pumpkin patches and children's activities.

The Thunder Beach Autumn Rally rolls back into Panama City Beach October 21–25, bringing motorcycles and rally activities to the area. The dates are confirmed on the city's 2026 event calendar.

Even if motorcycles aren't necessarily your thing, you will probably know Thunder Beach is here before anyone tells you. 

Take the Kids Fishing | October 24

The Youth Fishing Rodeo is back at Frank Brown Park on Saturday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. This free event is for kids 16 and younger, whether they're experienced anglers or picking up a fishing pole for the first time. There will be fishing, prizes and even hot dogs. 

It's a nice change of pace from the festivals and pumpkin patches and a chance to get the kids outdoors for something that feels very Northwest Florida.

Spend the Day at Faith Festival | October 24

What better way to spend a beautiful October Saturday than outside enjoying music, food, fellowship and faith?

Faith Festival returns to Aaron Bessant Park on Saturday, October 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. This free event features Christian music and worship, food trucks, local vendors, bounce houses and games for the kids.

There will also be a Prayer & Baptism Tent offering one-on-one prayer, along with local church tents where you can meet others from our community. Proceeds from the festival benefit The Ark Transitional Housing Ministry, which helps people experiencing homelessness in our area.

Beautiful weather, live music, family fun and fellowship—sounds like a pretty good way to spend an October Saturday!

Catch a Free Concert Downtown

Not everything requires spending your Saturday at a festival.

The Backstage Pass fall concert series continues on Thursday evenings through October 22 at the Marina Lawn in Downtown Panama City. The concerts run from 7–9 p.m., admission is free, and you're encouraged to bring a blanket or folding chair. Restaurants and cafés are within walking distance, so this one could work just as well for a casual date night as it does for an evening with friends.

Get Spooked Downtown | Throughout October

If you're looking for something a little less pumpkin patch and a little more BOO, Fright Nights in Historic Downtown Panama City runs October 1–31.

It's a month-long collection of spooky experiences centered around Downtown Panama City, combining horror, art, history and community events. Individual experiences and prices vary, with the current event listing showing prices from $20–$40.

I'd put this one in the older kids/adults/date-night category rather than automatically assuming it's appropriate for little ones.

A Little Something for Everybody

One of the things I love about October around here is that you really don't have to go far to find something going on.

We've got pirates and pumpkins, motorcycles and live music, fishing, dogs, German food, Halloween scares and plenty of activities for the kids. And quite a few of these events are free—which may be the best fall treat of all.

Whether you're raising a stein at Oktoberfest, watching your child climb into a fire truck, taking your four-legged family member to Paws in the Park or simply sitting outside listening to live music, October is a great excuse to get out and enjoy where we live.

And yes, you may still be doing all of it in shorts and flip-flops.

That's fall in Northwest Florida.
